exciting times ahead!

Speaking of which, I did a layout using Sunshine Broadcast of my oldest and her boyfriend. I just spent the weekend with her, and it's such an exciting time in her life. Oh, to be young again. LOL!

So what's the excitement here at Sassafras? Challenges, of course. Since some of us won't be at CHA, we decided to celebrate in our own little way. Here is the schedule:

Wed 20th- Marcy

Thursday 21st- Kimberly

Fri 22nd- Michelle

when your mojo leaves the building

use a sketch! I don't know about you, but for me, summer is BUSY. It's funny, because as a teacher I look forward to having more time to scrap in the summer. And yet summer provides so many opportunities to have fun, so what's a girl to do? The sheer number of pictures I have to wade through to even think of making a layout is daunting, and that can take a heavy hit on the mojo.

So today I'm sharing what I do when my creativity is lacking. Here I used a sketch from PageMaps. I also love sketches from Got Sketch and Pencil Lines. I used Ellie's Tale, and followed the sketch pretty closely.

enjoy the appeal of handmade without all the work! each self adhesive "entwined bloom" has been handcrafted with paper layers, twine, and vintage style buttons. 

I don't know about you, but I am IN LOVE with these flowers!

Here are some examples from the team. Look how Megan layered flowers over the blooms!

And from Kyoko look how she used the blooms to anchor her photos! Kyoko also stitched on her page to compliment the blooms.

And what I did was fill the blooms with stickers on pop adhesives and I layered the blooms over another paper flower.

a technique from marcy

Today I wanted to share with you how I add a little dimension to my page.
If I'm using a long strip of paper I usually just run my finger underneath it and bend the edge up (watch out for paper cuts!).  But if I'm using the Foldies or other intricately detailed shapes I have a different method I use.

If what I'm using is a sticker then I adhere the sticker onto a scrap of paper and cut it out.

Then I place my item on a foam pad (a mousepad would work too).  I use the end of my awl and press down while going along the edge of my item.  It will start to curl up.  The harder you press the more it will curl. If you don't have an awl you can use anything that has a slightly rounded end.
