Hi, guys - it's Michelle here with a fun technique this fine Tuesday!
Looking at 'Count Me In', 'Mix & Mend', and 'Indie Girl' from my Sassafras stash all spread out on my desk and wondering which one to use on my page (I love them all!), I realized they're quite different collections, *but* that there are things about them that can work really well together, if you look a little deeper - so I'm going to show you how to mix & match different paper collections, today! At times, this can seem impossible and a little overwhelming - but it's totally doable if you can spot the details that compliment eachother!
I started out with these black & white photos that I wanted to scrapbook with - which is exciting, for me, because that means I can use any color combination I want, without having to coordinate it with a photo! Yay! That's a cool change, sometimes, cuz I'm kind of a color junkie.
I'm naturally drawn to these colors together, so I started off with one of my favorite basic 'Mix & Mend' pieces to build on as a base, a lovely blue patterned paper from 'Indie Girl' & some pops of yellow from 'Count Me In' as a starting point. I then wanted to mix a little pink and orange in, to accent what I had already gathered, so I found some orange details from 'Mix & Mend' and further pulled things together using cute embellishments: a vintage brooch, in-a-stitch blossoms, entwined blooms, brads, letter stickers, and paper whimsies.
As a finishing touch, and to further bring everything together, I added a little orange paint & some green hand-stitched details.
And there you go! Can you tell which pieces are from different collections? By using papers and little bits & finding common colors and details within each, the page ended up looking like these pieces were meant to work together seamlessly in the first place!
So next time you scrapbook (and you're torn between which collection to use!), look for unique color stories in the details that you can pull together this way! :) It makes for great unexpected combinations - and you'll use lots of your different (perhaps even leftover?) supplies together!
Perfection!
