lately i've been pleasantly surprised to learn of a few unexpected paper crafters out in the world. it just goes to show...you never know how, when, or who will catch the scrapping bug next.
it's funny how it got my sister Ally. she's a busy working mom who bakes a mean cake and loves interior design...but has never been much into painting, sewing, or paper crafting. last year she was in need of a gift for her husband's crafty sister in morocco, and so she picked up a mystery box from the first sassafras box sale. but alas, the box was accidentally left behind when the visit to morocco occurred. so my sister was stuck with a box of scrapbooking stuff she had no idea what to do with. she put it in the closet and forgot about it...until she wanted to come up with an extra special gift for a friend's new baby. Ally grabbed some scissors and glue and dug into her mystery box. she ended up with the cutest handmade customized vintage-looking baby blocks! her friend adores them, i begged her to make me some for my desk at work, ideas flooded in for more and more awesome things she could do with paper crafting....and just like that, she was addicted. last time i went to her house she was putting the finishing touches on three large wall hangings she's making for her own baby's room, and excitedly showing me how she plans to cover a thrift-store dresser with her favorite papers and mod podge.
the other day, i was visiting with a friend of mine. he's a big burly beast of a bachelor man...would not be caught dead looking at 'martha stewart living' or frosting a cupcake. you get the idea. anyway, i was shocked to see that he had three sheets of crisp new scrapbooking paper spread out on his otherwise manly coffee table. "where did you get these?!" i asked. to my surprise, he had indeed gone out and picked out the papers along with three frames and some crafty stuff...glue and the like. he says he's using them to create handmade awards to give as prizes at a competition he's hosting. how do you like that?! he could have just bought something cheesy or given out starbucks gift cards, but instead he's trying his hand at something artistic and meaningful. i think that's fabulous.
i also heard a rumor that christina aguilera is a die hard scrapbooker. has anyone else heard that?
these types of stories make the sassafras staff smile like there's no tomorrow. if you have a story about someone unexpected discovering their crafty side, we'd love to hear it!

Great stories! I heard that Katie Holmes is a scrapper and she spends $3,000 per month on it! She also has a scraproom, or maybe wing if she spends that much on supplies!!
