i don't know if you know this, but those times when we go a day or two without saying hello to our blog pals and telling you all how much we heart you...well, it makes it so we don't feel quite right at the end of the day. it's important in life to make the time for your friends no matter what's going on...even if you are super busy designing the cutest stuff ever! (wink wink)

so today we just wanted to pop in for a quick hello, and to show you this drop dead gorgeous project by dt super christine middlecamp: 

i love how she mixed and matched cherry declicious and nerdy bird, and even threw in a border from the fawnd of you too collection. she added some sweet brads, in a stitch blossoms and alpha token pink chipboard. and do i spy some tiny bits of monstrosity tying in the black and white theme with that amazing centerpiece? i surely do.

as per the usual, christine's attention to detail just blows my mind.

this first one is from siberie in Japan. she was inspired to leave us a comment with a link to her adorable page when she read about mandie in our latest sassafras pal spotlight, and we're so happy she did! siberie has all kinds of goodness for you to feast your eyes on. this little jewel  with tasty morsels of cherry delicious, sweet marmalade, and sunshine lollipop just popped right off the page when we saw it:

 

mammascrapper's gallery at two peas is a pure garden of delight.  that's where we discovered this piece made with the march studio calico kit....i just love all of the gorgeous handmade detail (those doilies!), mixed so perfectly with the sapphire paper from cherry delicious and sparkly apple jack glitter stickers:

 

 

rachel mackin, aka fizzpopbang, fills her world with sassafrassy treasures to die for!  this amazing 3d project full of the happy pals and candyland colors of nerdy bird just about knocked me out of my chair when i saw it. it's so awesome!

 

  
   

and i can't help but throw in one more nerdy bird project, this time by shimelle. i just love how she used bits of lace and black & white photos with nerdy bird to create a layout that perfectly infuses both joy and sophistication.

here's shimelle's comment for this layout at her two peas gallery:

"I love the colours in the Nerdy Bird line from Sassafras Lass! At first I worried that the designs would be too juvenile for scrapping child-free pages, but the b-sides are versatile patterns that work for a range of themes. I loved these colours as an alternative to the traditional pastel colours of Easter accents, and I was amazed at just how many sticker strips come in the banner set. Enough to appear on plenty of projects! To create the dotted border strip, I stamped the polka dots on a white chipboard strip, then sprayed it with Glimmer Mists to get a colour that would match the stickers perfectly..."

michelle clement's projects never fail to stand out and inspire....and this one (made for sass creative director Rebecca as a birthday gift) is definitely a favorite of ours!  all those adorable bug felties and stitchy splattery details are the perfect way to highlight little anika's messy/cute personality!:

 

 

these cupcake sticks by marla kress are the cutest things ever. and look at those monstrosity cupcake cups!: 

 

a little family of winged tweeties watches over vicki boutin's family of smiling sweeties...and look at those awesome clouds! vicki cut them from 'classic' anthem paper and 'darling dear' vintage yummy paper:

this garland by martha bonneau is one of my favorites.  i have been dreaming of making one to hang in my office! martha used felties, paper whimsies and layered blossoms to embellish these cheery flags:

 

peg manrique's thoughtful treats below remind me that sometimes you just have to show your soft side, and making a card for someone 'just because' is the best way ever. especially if the card has a soft side, as in a soft feltie side! giving a friend one of these will make you feel all warm and fuzzy!

lilibee tutorial part 2: how to make a teensy house a tinsy home...

Hi!It's again Leila from LilibeeStudio! It is time for the remaining steps of my Nerdy Bird tutorial!!

 
    

Today i will show you how to make the minibook.

Cut out a 48 cm width on 15 cm hight piece of cardstock. Paint it in yellow and fold it in four 12 cm width pieces.

Cover each part of the  yellow cardstock with a different Nerdy Bird paper on both sides. 

 

Cut out four roof shaped paper pieces (see figure below ). Attach them on the top of the first and the last page of the minibook.

Layer each page with different and contrasting Nerdy Bird papers (I did not adhere the photos because this project is a gift for a friend who is going to have a baby girl ). Add tag stickers & cut out the little cuties .

 

Then add your titles. I mixed glitter Apple Jack Alpha with the Gorgeous Token Pink Chipboard alpha  and i couldn't resist to use the   puddle jumper butterfly fleties  ( i love the felties so much!!).

 

 

Don't forget to add the garland.You can make it very easily.Cut out some yellow thread.Choose one of the Nerdy Bird flag banner stickers.Cut six triangles.Attach them  on each side of the thread.Then attach the garland  to both sides of the pages.

how to make a teensy house a tinsy home, by lilibee... (part 1)

oh my gosh, we're so excited. the super-duper, amazing, talented and all around incredible sassafras dt extraordinaire leila bentahar has come to our little old blog and written up a special tutorial, just for you!!!  and just in time for the weekend. mother's day weekend at that...if any of you know a new mommy i bet a gift like this would be her favorite little treasure! (well, second favorite maybe)

Hi everyone! :) This is Leila from LilibeeStudio. I feel happy and proud to do my first tutorial on the Sassafras blog. This time i chose the cute Nerdy Bird collection to make this house shaped and easy-to-do minibook: 

I used the following supplies:

Nerdy Bird 12/12 papers , Nerdy Bird wee Bundle 6x6 ,Nerdy Bird journal Tags stickers, Nerdy Bird sweet treats stickers, Apple Jack alpha stickers ,Puddle jumpers felties , Alpha Token Pink chipoard stickers,Nerdy Bird flag banner stickers, white cardstock , yellow acrylic painting.

 

Cut out two cardstock pieces using the figure above. Paint them with yellow acrylic.

 

Fold the two pieces (see figure above) and attached them.

 

Cover each side side with paper. Adhere a paper trim on the bottom, then add a flag banner sticker all around.

Make the chimney by folding a small  ( 4 cm x 2.5 cm x 1cm ) piece of cardstock. See photo above.

 
 
Make a hole on the right side of house roof ( 4 cm height x 1cm width ) and insert the chemney. Adhere the cloud. 
   

Decorate it with more flag banner stickers , sweet treat stickers and stiched buttons.

crafty thoughts by martha bonneau...(sassafras dt super)

boy oh boy do we have a world of inspiration for you today! i am already itching to dig through my knick knacks and do dads to see what crafty wonderousness they might inspire. there really is nothing like mixing the colors and textures of the past with something fresh and new to give your projects their own fun, funky personality....  

 

and nobody knows that better than our own martha bonneau. we always wondered what kind of crafty thoughts were swimming around in her head to inspire her beautifully unique style! so we asked her to give us a little insight:

"Anyone who knows me knows of my love for vintage!  Sure vintage items are cool & pretty and fun to look at but I also find them inspiring and draw lots of ideas and inspiration from them...I also like to incorporate vintage touches in my LOs.

For this LO I was inspired by a couple of different elements, a vintage children's book and some German reproduction vintage cut-outs that I found when I was in the Netherlands.

 

I love to use color and lots of it in my LOs so for this particular project I was inspired by the cute little "Fun to Cook Book" that sits on a shelf in my scraproom.  I saw the little red-haired girl on the cover and it reminded me of a picture of one of my Blythe dolls, I loved the contrast between the red and that fabulous turquoise background of the book cover so I used a piece of Spring Sprig pp from the Cherry Delicious line since it shared the same colors and had that wonderful vintage feel to it.  I was even inspired by the wonderful colors on the metal top which gave me the inspiration for layering the border edge strips along the bottom of the picture.

 

 

 

I incorporated 1 of the cut-outs into the LO, one of the reasons I love Sassafras so much is that so many of the elements of the collections work so well with vintage items.  She looks right at home with the flowers cut from the piece of Winsome pp.
