my first acquaintance with lucy edson was right here on our blog. i saw a project that had been posted by sandy, and i REALLY REALLY wanted to have it on display in our CHA booth. so i contacted lucy, she graciously sent her project in for our display. i had the privilege of meeting lucy this summer during the CHA show. she has continued to amaze me with her sassafras projects! so enjoy getting to know lucy and learning a little bit about her creative world...
she's like many of you- super talented scrapbooker and MOM.
i asked lucy,
how often do you scrapbook in a week? how often do you wish you could scrapbook in a week??
her reply?
"I actually do something creative - scrapbooking, painting, sewing almost every day - every day you can create is a good day. :) I would like to scrap every day but know that I need a couple of days off a week to recharge and keep up with the housework.....hehehe."
i felt challenged by that response. WOW. something creative every day? i definitely do housework everyday! thanks lucy for that response. it's motivating. i need to spend a little more personal time during the week being creative! crafting with the kids, crafting for myself, journaling, trying a new craft...
what has lucy been listening to this week?
I Run To You - Lady Antebellum
Please Don't Leave Me - Pink
Second Chance - Shinedown
i looooove how her pictures work so well with the project. she has a great way of layering, stitching, using LOTS of products, and still KEEPING the focal point on the picture.
here is an example of a mixed media project lucy made. she used paper whimsies, brads, in-a-stitch blossoms, stamping, right on top of a painting! very cool idea.
lucy, what is your favorite technique this week?
"Masking, misting - then handstitching the outlines of the mask - I love this because the stitching contrasts so wonderfully with the graphic lines of the masking. I like to mask simple shapes that are easy to outline and really pop on your page."
and here is an EXQUISITE example of these techniques in action....
will you share with everyone what is inspiring you this week?
"I love Wyanne's paintings incorporating patterned paper into the girls - so whimsical and inspiring!"
see more of this artist wyanne thompson
and...
"These photos and color boards are amazing - full of inspiration!"
from snippet and ink
one more question Lucy...
if you could pick one theme to scrapbook for a solid week, what would it be this week, and why?
"Working with color inspirations - like color boards to explore a color scheme in detail - varing the the contrasts and hue. I love color!"
thank you lucy for sharing a peek into your creative world, and for being a sassafras pal =)
i'm on the look out for more designers to spotlight! so please share your projects, your passions, your tips, your tricks........ and watch here for more features of artist JUST LIKE YOU!

miss sandy bee has been one of our behind the scenes blog girl for quite some time now. she has no doubt captured you with her witty words, and great sassafras finds. you may have been one of the lucky winners of her handmade pear pillows. we would like to give sandy a big thank you as she moves on to new endeavours in her career path! we wish her the very best of luck!!!
thank you sandy!!!!!
This girl captured our attention a few years back. i think it was on sis that we saw this layout...
she has a very unique way of adding lots of detail, in a free spirited way. she is not scared to splatter, staple, paint, crinkle, stitch, and MIX IT UP.
speaking of details...
she clicks well with sassafras with her shared love for cute creatures of all shapes, sorts, and size. top of the list on her current loves..... monsters! a few inspire pieces she picked out..
so wish i owned this piece last weekend!
she loves this artist....
introducing a new addition to the sassafras design team....MICHELLE CLEMENT
so goodbyes and hello's mean something new for everyone. sometimes change, saying goodbyes, can be hard...BUT...sometimes it brings about new opportunities you never would have experienced!

Did you know that Sassafras has two design styles? "Life is Beautiful" and "Serendipity" are distinct creative feels that all of our collections fall under. We like the idea of not having one defined "look", and really enjoy experimenting with different creative styles. Feeling fun and whimsical? Bungle Jungle, Owl Pals, Monstrosity, Me Likey... these collections are the "Serendipity" side of Sassafras.
Vintage Yummy, Sweet Marmalade, My Dearest.... are the slightly more sophisticated, oh so pretty, "Life is Beautiful" Sassafras style.
The best part of all?? You can mix the two quite effortlessly.
This week, in the design studio, has been a serendipitous week =) The next line to be introduced (January 2010) will be one of those "you can't help but smile" kind of lines.
These images made me smile, re-sparked my love for CUTE, oh how i love cute little things =) Part of being a girl i suppose.
have you ever taken a browse thru weheartit? i loved these little blue guys when i was little! ....um and when i was big.
tim sent me this inspiration in our ongoing hunt for the girls room decor. Which is coming along.... not quite picture ready yet.
if you think this little mini-album (designed by tracie hudson) is cute, AND you are attending sparktheevent.com on Nov 6-7th then you can make one for your very own!
going to a monster bash this weekend? have you ever seen a CUTER monster bash invite? I vote for Peg Manrique's cutest invites ever.....
i can't resist..... i am biased, but this 2 year old definitely falls in the SERENDIPITOUSLY CUTE category..
and one super CUTE layout by miss martha...
have a happy monster-iffic halloween weekend =)

hello friends!!!
have you entered our label tulip contest yet? if you haven't, make sure you read the post below and leave your comment. we want one of you to win their awesome halloween prize. we will pick a random winner tomorrow so act fast!
it's going to be a spook-tacular week. the weather today is chilling to the bones. even though it's getting scary outside, it's downright frightening in the paper crafting world. silly monsters are taking over, one project at a time.. . take a look:
noemi's silly monster can just be called trouble.
anthea has a monster who just can't sit still.
rebecca's monster may have gobbled up her sweet baby girl.
yvonne is fascinated by all things halloween. singapore doesn't celebrate halloween, but her monsters don't care. look at these scary(sweet) milk carton treat boxes.
scraprookie's monster is not making a mess . . . it's art!
breann has some monsters in her closet . . . but it looks like they are taking center stage on her layout and centerpiece.
karin's monsters greet you at the door:
and anna marie's monster is just as silly as can be.
scary isn't it? our monsters don't have boundaries. they could pop up. . . anywhere. so be on the look out. we'll try to capture more of them here. if you have monsters you want to show off. . .leave a comment!!!
and have a good day.
